Here’s The story behind the stores

Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits was created to make buying wines that you LOVE simpler and friendlier. Each store features well-organized sections, a hand-chosen selection at great prices, and experts eager to help guide you.

IT ALL STARTED AROUND THE DINNER TABLE

Stew Leonard’s WINES began when Stew Leonard, Jr., and his two sisters, Jill and Beth, and brother, Tom, were sitting at the dinner table. They realized the only item on the table that their store did not sell was the wine. The meal was fantastic, but the wine was just ok. Stew said to his sisters, “We can do better. Don’t you agree?”

Stew and his family decided to take their decades of retail experience in the food business and apply it to wine. They agreed that any store, which opened under the “Stew Leonard’s” trademark, would offer customers a friendly, well-trained staff and a clean, organized store. We want any customer in a Stew Leonard’s store to feel comfortable asking questions about wine and to enjoy it as much as we do. After studying the industry, taking multiple courses and traveling to numerous wineries, Beth L. Hollis, Stew’s sister, opened the first wine store in Yonkers, New York, in 1999.

MEET BLAKE LEONARD

I am obsessed with food and wine. I'm third generation of my family's business, Stew Leonard's, so I think that's where I get it from. My first job after college was in sales with Gallo Wine. Over the years, my various sales and marketing jobs have allowed me to travel to vineyards all around the world. Becoming a Certified Sommelier has given me an appreciation for my senses and that everyone's taste is uniquely their own. I hope to help you find your absolute favorite wine, beer or cocktail. Think of me as your own personal sommelier. Nice to meet you!

CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS AT STEW'S!

Stew Leonard's Wines attracts some of the most notable names in food and wine for tastings and book signings. Actor Danny DeVito gave fans a tasting of his Premium Limoncello; Lidia Matticchio Bastianich stopped by to sign copies of her cookbook, Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy; Rao's owner Frank Pellegrino signed bottles of his Rao's wines; and actress and wine entrepreneur Lorraine Bracco shared her selection of signature Bracco Wines.
