Merlot gets a bad rap. After Miles dissed the grape during the movie Sideways Merlot was pushed aside in favor of Pinot Noir, and forgotten in people’s consciousness. And while there can be bad examples of overcropped, thin Merlot, let’s not forget that Merlot is also a key component of Bordeaux, including $2000/btl Petrus that is 100% Merlot!
Domino is not Petrus so let’s clear that up immediately. But then at $7 it doesn’t need to be. What it is simply is a tasty “Tuesday night wine;” something to open and enjoy while watching TV or talking to your girlfriend on the phone. And what’s so wrong about that?
